What 32 aesthetic Board accusations reveal.
A Review of 32 Licensing Board Accusations Related to Aesthetics Against RNs, NPs, PAs and MDs, Charting Every Citation, Outcome and Dollar of Cost Recovery. Only 7 Involved Documented Patient Harm. Most Were Decided on Documentation.
The same gaps, again and again.
The Top Three Findings Are All Documentation. They Exist, or They Don't, Long Before Anyone Asks.
Generic policies or no policies
A National Association's Policy Set Did Not Meet Standardized Procedure Criteria. A Mid-Investigation Update Still Fell Short.
Lack of physician oversight
An Out-of-State Director Covering Four Medspas. Charts Never Signed. A Director Untrained in the Treatments He Oversaw.
The good faith exam
Third-Party Exams, Remote Exams with No Plan, or None at All.
Cases Counted If the Issue Appears Anywhere in the Description or Citations; One Case Can Appear in Several Rows.
What it costs.
An Accusation Is the Start of Years of Consequences. The Typical Gap Between Conduct and Filed Accusation Was About Three Years. By Then Staff, Owners and Directors Had Often Changed. The Records Were What Remained.
Cost Recovery Reimburses the Board's Investigation and Prosecution. It Excludes Attorney Fees, Probation Monitoring, Coursework, Lost Shifts and Rebuilding Systems.
Six cases, six lessons.
Anonymized and Simplified. Each Case Turns on Its Own Facts.
Most Board Cases Aren't Decided by What Happened in the Chair.

The rules are being enforced, not just written.
States Are Writing Medspa-Specific Laws, and Regulators Are Walking in the Door. It's Up to Us to Follow the Rules. Your License Depends on It.

A nurse who knows the treatment room and the binder.
I'm Cindi Vokey, BSN, RN, founder and lead educator of Aesthetic Nursing Policy & Procedures, Inc. My passion for the past 18 years in aesthetic nursing goes beyond injecting. After facing my own licensing issue, I made it right and promised myself I would help others in this field do the same. Since then, I've guided providers through Board investigations and supported them during probation.
Based in San Diego, I work with providers nationwide, alongside your healthcare attorney whenever legal review is needed.
My policies and procedures have been submitted to State Boards and accepted each time. The work comes in three parts: CE from a California BRN-Approved Provider (CEP #18009), customized policies, procedures and other required practice documents, and consulting that turns them into a working system.
- RN License · California Board of Registered Nursing (2003–Present) & Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing (1999–Present)
